In a bid to alleviate the economic challenges faced by workers, the Bayelsa State Government has granted approval for the disbursement of N35,000 wage awards to employees across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during a meeting with the leadership of the South-South Zone of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at Government House, Yenagoa.

Ewhrudjakpo attributed the approval to Governor Douye Diri's commitment to responding to the financial difficulties experienced by workers, particularly in light of the Federal Government's call for states to utilize funds from oil subsidy removal to support workers.

Highlighting the importance of the civil service in governance, Ewhrudjakpo emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring the welfare of its employees. He stated, "Civil servants are the people that implement the programmes and policies of government... That is why we take our civil service very seriously here."

Furthermore, Ewhrudjakpo reassured workers that the state government is committed to fulfilling its obligations, noting that there are currently no outstanding salary payments. Regarding the wage awards, he confirmed that Governor Diri had approved them and that the Head of Service would initiate the necessary steps for their implementation following the meeting.
