The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its investigation into Naira abuse involving celebrities, following the recent imprisonment of popular cross-dresser, Bobrisky, for the same offense. In a statement released on Sunday by EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency disclosed its ongoing efforts to address the issue.
According to Oyewale, the EFCC has summoned several celebrities for questioning, with many providing valuable information during the interrogation process. "At the moment, the Commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse. Many of them have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter," the statement read.
The EFCC emphasized its commitment to upholding the law without favoritism, stating, "The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime."
Bobrisky's recent conviction for Naira abuse has further underscored the seriousness with which the EFCC is tackling the issue. Last week, Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced Bobrisky to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine, signaling the consequences of engaging in such illegal activities.
