"Federal Government Initiates Nationwide Distribution of 42,000 Metric Tonnes of Grains to Tackle Food Insecurity"

In a significant move to address the escalating cost of food items and alleviate the burden on citizens, the Tinubu-led federal government has launched the distribution of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains across the nation.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, during an interactive session with the National Assembly joint committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development. Responding to inquiries about government strategies to mitigate food price inflation, Kyari revealed that President Bola Tinubu had authorized the distribution of the grains for immediate impact, free of charge to the Nigerian population.

Kyari emphasized that the directive from the President, received in mid-February, was already in motion, with distributions underway across various states. He noted the necessity of maintaining discretion in certain movements to prevent the vandalism of food supplies, underscoring collaboration with national security agencies to ensure smooth distribution processes. Additionally, Kyari announced plans to release 58,500 metric tons of milled rice from mega rice millers into the market to stabilize prices further.

The Minister stressed that the government's action aimed to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians, expressing confidence that these measures would contribute to improving food security and ultimately alleviate the prevailing economic challenges.
