Sunday Igboho Appeals for Release of Nnamdi Kanu, Citing Health Concerns
Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has made a public plea to the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, urging for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. In a video circulating on social media, Igboho emphasized the need for dropping the treasonable charges against Kanu, expressing concern over his deteriorating health condition.
Adeyemo argued that Kanu, similar to himself, is an agitator fighting for the interests of his region, stressing the importance of releasing him to reunite with his family. He stated, "Please release Nnamdi Kanu, stop politics. This guy did not do anything. Today is February 26, 2024. Release him, let him go and stay with his family."
The plea comes amidst reports from Kanu's legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, highlighting the urgent need for proper medical attention due to Kanu's heart condition. Ejimakor emphasized that the facilities at the Department of State Security Service (DSS), where Kanu is detained, are inadequate to address his health concerns. He revealed that an independent medical practitioner had assessed Kanu's condition, warning of potential heart failure if not treated appropriately.
However, the prosecuting team, led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), argued against the bail application, asserting that the DSS possesses the necessary medical facilities to attend to Kanu's health needs. Despite the legal debates, the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, adjourned the ruling on the bail application until March 19, 2024, further prolonging Kanu's detention amidst growing health concerns.
