IMO STATE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT COMMITTEE DISPELS ALLEGATIONS OF MISAPPROPRIATION, CALLS ACCUSATIONS BASELESS

The Committee on Security Data Capturing and Painting, operating under the umbrella of the Imo State Ministry of Transport, vehemently refutes recent media allegations accusing its Chairman, Elder Anaelechi Ukawune, and Treasurer, Hon. Kingsley Nwachukwu, of diverting a purported #400 million into private coffers.

Elder Ukawune, popularly known as "Obowo," addressed the media, asserting that the committee's operations are transparent and subject to verification within the Imo Ministry of Transport. He urged the public to disregard the malicious publication, emphasizing that the committee had recently undergone a state audit without any findings of misconduct.

In response to the accusations, Elder Ukawune discredited the author of the report, Daniel Okonji, stating that Okonji lacks accurate information about the committee's operations. He highlighted that the so-called Imo Niger Delta Transporters Association, which Okonji claims to chair, is an illegal entity, not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or the Imo State Ministry of Transport.

Ukawune accused Okonji of being driven by personal vendettas, asserting that Okonji's suspension as Secretary of the Amalgamated Drivers Association triggered his vendetta. The committee chair also alleged that Okonji, affiliated with the opposition Labour Party (LP), is being used to undermine Governor Hope Uzodimma's government.

Addressing specific claims about the conversion of recovered vehicles, Elder Ukawune challenged Okonji to present evidence supporting his allegations and affirmed that the law would take its course. The committee expressed readiness to appear before the House of Assembly Committee on Transport, welcoming a thorough investigation.

A top official of the Ministry of Transport, speaking anonymously, expressed confidence in Elder Ukawune and the committee, emphasizing the Ministry's commitment to defending them. The official acknowledged the recent audit conducted by the Office of the Imo State Auditor-General, adding an assurance that the Ministry stands ready to address any further inquiries.
