UZODINMA FIRES UP NIGHTLIFE AT DAN ANYIAM STADIUM
…Para-Sports crown Onyeocha as “Pillar of Sports”
Dan Anyiam Stadium has regained its glow and energy as night sports officially bounced back under the spotlight of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.
In a spectacular transformation, over 400 solar-powered floodlights and standing lamps now beam across the iconic stadium—from the gates to the main arena—thanks to the efforts of the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Obinna Onyeocha.
The unveiling, which lit up Owerri’s sporting heartbeat, was capped with a colourful evening of activities on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the basketball court, showcasing the brilliance of the new facility.
In recognition of his outstanding drive and impact on sports development in Imo State, the Para-Sports Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter, honoured Onyeocha with the prestigious award of “Pillar of Sports/Outstanding Commissioner of the Year 2025.”
According to the association, the award is a tribute to Onyeocha’s relentless push for inclusivity and infrastructure growth across the state’s sporting landscape.
With the lights blazing and sportsmen and women celebrating, Owerri’s beloved Dan Anyiam Stadium is once again primed for extra time action—on and off the field.
