Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has publicly denied allegations linking him to a violent incident that reportedly disrupted the inauguration of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) leadership in Abuja. The President of NANS, Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, had accused Seyi Tinubu of orchestrating an attack during the ceremony at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro. According to Isah, individuals allegedly loyal to Tinubu invaded the venue armed with cutlasses and firearms. The attack, he claimed, left several attendees injured, valuables looted, and forced dignitaries such as Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and former Governor Idris Wada to flee for safety. Describing the incident as politically motivated, Isah also alleged it was connected to a bribe attempt meant to stifle his leadership.

In response, Seyi Tinubu took to Instagram to issue a firm denial, dismissing the allegations as completely unfounded. He stated, "I have never held a meeting to discuss any subject matter with Comrade Isah in Lagos or anywhere else in the world. I have never knowingly met him before. Neither did I visit any location with thugs. All these allegations by Atiku Isah are completely fictional." He added with disbelief: "Wow… how can someone lie with so much confidence? Wow, wow… an attempt to defame any character. May God be with you, Comrade Atiku Isah."

As of the time of this report, no official complaint has been lodged with law enforcement agencies.

This incident follows earlier controversies involving Seyi Tinubu and NANS. In February 2025, Sahara Reporters alleged that Seyi Tinubu orchestrated a factional crisis within NANS and sent armed thugs to disrupt the association’s convention in Abuja. The report claimed that he influenced the selection of Comrade Olushola Oladoja from Oyo State as the factional national president of the student body, aiming to secure a student mobilisation structure in favour of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. The convention reportedly descended into chaos when suspected thugs, allegedly led by Seyi's preferred candidate, Oladoja, stormed the venue, attacking delegates, including Atiku Abubakar Isah.

However, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has dismissed allegations of Seyi Tinubu's interference in its leadership transition. In a statement by Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, the Senate President, NANS described the accusations as baseless and a deliberate attempt to create division, tarnish reputations, and undermine the integrity of the association. The association reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, equity, and accountability, emphasizing that it remains a strong, autonomous, and democratic student body. The statement clarified that the NANS Constitution provides a clear framework for conducting elections, which is strictly overseen by the Independent NANS Convention Planning Committee (INANS-CPC).

Additionally, a group under the auspices of Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST) has debunked the rumour accusing Seyi Tinubu of interfering in the leadership of NANS. In a statement signed by FOST President, Adejorin Tai Manue, the group described the report as unfounded claims aimed at tarnishing the reputation of a man deeply committed to the progress and unity of Nigerian students. The group emphasized that Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown unwavering support for NANS, which has been plagued by factionalism and other disputes, to foster peace, unity, and progress within the association.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these conflicting narratives will be resolved.
