The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially dismissed circulating reports claiming that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on May 27, 2025. The Commission clarified that no such date has been set and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 4, 2025, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, emphasized that the alleged resumption date is false and not authorized by the Commission. He stated, "The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that it has not yet announced any date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration, Transfer and Replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards."
INEC highlighted that any official announcements regarding the resumption of CVR and related services will be communicated through its verified social media platforms and other official channels. The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely information dissemination to the public.
The Commission also cautioned citizens against spreading unverified information, noting that the anonymous messages circulating online lack credibility and are intended to mislead the public. INEC advised individuals to rely solely on information from official sources to stay accurately informed about electoral processes.
As Nigeria prepares for future elections, INEC assured the public that it remains dedicated to facilitating a transparent and inclusive electoral process. The Commission will provide ample notice and detailed information once a decision is made regarding the resumption of voter registration activities.
