Senator Suleiman Nazif, former Deputy National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Hailing from Bauchi State, Nazif announced his departure from the PDP on March 28, 2025, marking a significant shift in his political allegiance.

This move is anticipated to have notable political implications, particularly in Bauchi State, where Nazif has held considerable influence. His defection aligns with a broader trend of political realignments in Nigeria, as leaders and politicians seek affiliations that better reflect their ambitions and ideologies.

The SDP has welcomed Nazif's decision, viewing it as a boost to the party's stature and an important step toward strengthening its political influence.

Senator Nazif's political journey has seen previous shifts. Notably, in 2018, he was among 14 senators who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, a move that underscored his dynamic political stance.

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, Nazif's defection to the SDP is expected to influence the dynamics within Bauchi State and potentially at the national level, depending on how the SDP leverages his experience and influence.
