The Minority and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives has distanced itself from a coalition of 60 opposition lawmakers, stating that such a coalition is unrecognized within the parliament. The caucus, led by members including Kingsley Chinda and Ali Madaki, issued a statement condemning the recent press release by the coalition, led by Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The statement highlighted the caucus's disapproval of the coalition's demands and language, labeling them as unparliamentary. The caucus emphasized that the coalition's actions do not represent the views of minority parties and urged them to refrain from further misinformation.
The coalition of lawmakers had recently threatened to leave the PDP over grievances regarding the appointment of local government caretaker committees and accused the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, of anti-party activities.
They also demanded Damagum's resignation and raised concerns about his alleged plans to hand over the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Additionally, they accused the PDP chairman of plotting to impeach the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
