The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate this year's Workers' Day.
The declaration came through a statement released by Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday, April 30.
In the statement, the ministry emphasized the importance of excellence, efficiency, and equity in all aspects of labor, echoing the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to foster innovation, productivity, and inclusivity in the workplace.
The theme of this year's celebration, focusing on ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate, was highlighted.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its dedication to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all citizens, promising a conducive environment for work and national development.
Recognizing the invaluable contributions of workers, the ministry called for proactive measures to address the adverse effects of climate change.
It stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in implementing sustainable practices and policies to promote well-being in the workplace and uphold national values of integrity, diligence, and compassion.
The ministry urged Nigerians to remain committed to the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda and extended warm wishes to workers for a joyful celebration.
