"Nigeria Ranks 102nd in World Happiness Report Amidst Varied Well-being Factors"
The recently released World Happiness Report has placed Nigeria at the 102nd position out of 143 countries, highlighting a complex interplay of economic, social, and political factors affecting the nation's well-being. This marks a decline of seven positions from the previous year, where Nigeria was ranked 95th.
Nigeria trails behind countries like Iran and Azerbaijan, occupying the 100th and 101st positions respectively. The report, unveiled to coincide with the UN's International Day of Happiness, draws on data from the Gallup World Poll and insights from leading well-being experts.
Finland retains its status as the happiest nation for the seventh consecutive year, while Mauritius emerges as the happiest African country, securing the 70th position globally.
Notably, the report introduces separate rankings by age group, revealing disparities within Nigeria. While individuals under 30 rank Nigeria at 108th globally for happiness, the country's ranking drops to 130th among adults, indicating lower levels of happiness among older Nigerians.
Factors influencing happiness, as outlined in the report, include GDP, life expectancy, social support, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. These interdisciplinary insights shed light on variations across nations and over time, underlining the multifaceted nature of happiness assessment.
