Julius Abure has secured a second term as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, following a unanimous affirmation by delegates at the party's national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State. Despite protests from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Abure's re-election was declared by the Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu.

The NLC had previously called for Abure's resignation and the formation of a caretaker transition committee to oversee a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention. This call came amidst accusations of financial impropriety leveled against Abure by disgruntled workers, who had gathered around the party office demanding his removal.

Disagreements over the party's leadership persisted, with rival camps within the party disputing the NLC's authority to intervene. Former NLC President Ayuba Wabba weighed in on the matter, asserting that the Labour Party was founded by the NLC with the aim of providing a platform for workers to exercise their rights. According to Wabba, the NLC holds a vested interest in the management of the party, as it was formed and registered under its auspices.

Despite the tensions and diverging opinions, Julius Abure's re-election stands as a testament to his continued support within the Labour Party, solidifying his position as its National Chairman for another term.
