"Tinubu Calls for Action Against Food Hoarders as FG and State Governors Agree on State Police Formation"

In a significant development aimed at addressing the nation's security challenges and ensuring food security, President Bola Tinubu has directed key security agencies to crack down on food hoarders, while also advocating for the establishment of state police. This directive follows a crucial emergency meeting between the federal government and governors from all 36 states, convened at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the meeting, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, consensus was reached on the urgent need to set up state police forces as part of efforts to bolster security across the country. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, revealed this outcome to the press, highlighting the ongoing discussions to finalize the modalities for implementing state police structures.

Furthermore, the gathering addressed the improved security situation in various regions, with an emphasis on the return of farmers to previously inaccessible lands in states like Borno, Jigawa, and Plateau. Additionally, measures to enhance the capacity of forest rangers and safeguard agricultural activities were deliberated upon.

In response to concerns over food scarcity, a committee has been established to consolidate the meeting's resolutions. President Tinubu has instructed key security figures, including the National Security Adviser, the Director General of the State Department of State Services, and the Inspector General of Police, to collaborate with governors in curbing the hoarding of essential food items. This directive underscores the government's commitment to ensuring food availability and affordability for all citizens.

Moreover, the government affirmed its stance against food importation, opting instead to prioritize domestic production to sustain recent agricultural progress. The decision aligns with ongoing efforts to stimulate investments in agriculture and create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth population.

In his address, Tinubu emphasized the importance of collective action between the federal and state governments to address pressing challenges and promote national unity and prosperity. He underscored the need for continuous engagement and cooperation among stakeholders to achieve these shared objectives.

As Nigeria navigates these critical issues, the unified stance of President Tinubu and all 36 state governors reflects a commitment to safeguarding the nation's stability, unity, and prosperity. This collaborative approach underscores a concerted effort to address multifaceted challenges and pave the way for a brighter future for all Nigerians.
