Joint Task Force Uncovers 14 Illegal Oil Refining Sites in Rivers State

The Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), under the leadership of Commander Rear Adm. John Okeke, has made a significant breakthrough in its mission to curb illegal activities in the Niger Delta region. Rear Adm. Okeke announced the discovery of 14 illegal crude oil refining sites during a recent operation on Ataba Island, near Bonny Island in Rivers State. This revelation underscores the ongoing battle against illicit practices in the oil-rich region.

The operation, carried out based on intelligence information, revealed the extent of clandestine activities aimed at refining crude oil outside authorized channels. Rear Adm. Okeke, who inspected the uncovered sites, emphasized the collaborative effort involving multiple security agencies, including the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDC, and DIA, among others. He reiterated the importance of teamwork in combating illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism, highlighting the joint operation's resolve to make the Niger Delta inhospitable for criminals.

Despite no immediate arrests, Rear Adm. Okeke assured sustained surveillance to dismantle illegal refining operations and apprehend economic saboteurs. He emphasized continuity from his predecessor's efforts and commended the swift progress made within 24 hours of assuming command. Rear Adm. Okeke urged perpetrators to abandon illicit activities and engage in legitimate ventures, warning of relentless pursuit against those involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering.

The OPDS's decisive action serves as a deterrent to criminal elements and underscores the commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's oil infrastructure and natural resources.
