"Special Intervention Squad Launches Successful Anti-Bandit Operation in FCT: 139 Arrested, 154 Hostages Rescued"

In a significant stride towards enhancing security within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the recently inaugurated Special Intervention Squad (IGP-SIS) under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness. Over the course of two weeks, the operatives have made substantial strides in the fight against criminal elements, culminating in the arrest of 139 suspected bandits, the rescue of 154 hostages, and the recovery of 604 ammunitions.

Among the notable achievements, the IGP-SIS intercepted a group along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway believed to be key suppliers of arms to bandits in Niger, Zamfara, and Kaduna States. In a recent operation within the FCT-Kaduna axis, the squad engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing three, including their gang leader, Mai-Gemu (aka Gadoro).

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, underscored the success of the operation in a statement, highlighting the confiscation of three GPR Chargers, two AK-47 rifles, one Type-06, four locally fabricated guns, one Berretta pistol, two Makarov pistols, and four locally fabricated pump-action guns. Additionally, 504 pieces of AK-47 ammunition and 100 pieces of AA ammunition were seized.

Adejobi emphasized the squad's commitment to eradicating criminal elements, citing the recent arrest of two major gun-running kingpins supplying arms in the North-Central region. Further, the IGP-SIS successfully apprehended two kidnappers in the Jikwoyi area of the FCT, recovering arms and ammunition during a confrontation that also resulted in the rescue of a kidnapped victim.

Inspector General of Police Egbetokun affirmed the squad's broader mandate, stating that the IGP-SIS would extend its operations to other states nationwide. Tactical deployment of operatives to areas grappling with security breaches within the FCT remains ongoing, reflecting the commitment to combatting criminal activities and ensuring effective security management across the country.
