During a recent thanksgiving service at the Saint John’s Pro-Cathedral of the Catholic Church in Abak, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, made a significant announcement regarding his political future. Emmanuel expressed his unwavering confidence in his former deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, stating that if granted the opportunity to lead the state once again, he would choose Ekpo as his running mate.
Emmanuel, reflecting on their collaborative eight-year tenure marked by peace and synergy, described Ekpo as more than just a deputy but as an advisor, co-laborer, and confidant. He emphasized Ekpo's deep character and contentment as qualities that significantly contributed to the success of their administration.
The former governor went on to praise Ekpo's integrity and consistent support, noting that he valued every piece of counsel received during their time in office. Emmanuel acknowledged Ekpo's greater age and experience as assets that enhanced their collaboration, contributing to the overall success of their governance.
Incumbent governor, Pastor Umo Eno, joined in commending Ekpo, attributing his character, statesmanship, and intellectual prowess to the peace and stability witnessed in the previous administration. Governor Eno expressed gratitude for Ekpo's inspiration and positive impact, echoing the sentiments expressed by the former governor.
During the thanksgiving speech, Mr. Moses Ekpo expressed gratitude to God for the grace to serve the state for eight years in good health. He also acknowledged God's goodness throughout his 82-year life journey. The thanksgiving Mass, themed "Celebrating God’s glories over crosses," was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, Bishop Ebebe Aya, adding a spiritual dimension to the occasion.
