RE: Crisis Looms As Abiaziem Community Directs Antan Oil Company To Interface With The Community People Or No Business Deal
...As They Send SoS To Governor Uzodimma
Our attention have been drawn to a malicious and purported press conference conducted by Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi and Mr Chima Awah, and published by The Trumpeta Newspaper on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Ordinarily, we would not dignify this with a response. However, to dispel the falsehoods concocted by these two desperate individuals who thrive on public funds, we feel compelled to address the public.
Firstly, we want to clarify that Mr Christian Igwe, mentioned in the aforementioned press conference, is a peace-loving gentleman who has significantly contributed to both individual and collective development in Abiaziem. He has always been an asset to the community, generously supporting the town union, churches, and individuals with his resources. No family in Abiaziem can deny benefiting from his generosity, including Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi and Mr Chima Awah. Mentioning his name in such a defamatory manner is not only petty but also an act of wickedness, envy, and jealousy. Mr Christian Igwe has no involvement with the oil company and is currently in Lagos, focusing on his family and job.
Christian Igwe has no business with the seismic exploration in Abiaziem. The actions of Gabriel Irogbarachi and Chima Awah were motivated by their selfish interests and egos. They are in a sinking ship and are trying to drag others down with them. Their lies would not hold without dragging Mr Christian Igwe's name into it.
Thirdly, we would like to address the tenure of Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi as the president of Abiaziem Town Union Lagos Branch and Abiaziem Youth League Lagos Branch. During his tenure, he failed to account for his stewardship, which spanned over two decades. Corruption, embezzlement, and diversion of public funds were rampant, leading to the collapse of the Abiaziem Town Union Lagos Branch. The Abiaziem Youth League Lagos Branch nearly met the same fate if not for the timely intervention of Mr Christian Igwe and other progressive individuals. Despite spending 30 years as president, Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi still craves for power and desires to remain relevant in policy and decision-making in Abiaziem.
Mr Chima Awah, who served as president of Abiaziem Town Union (Home Branch) between 2008 and 2011, abused his office and has since held onto the Town Union funds. He lacks the standing to speak on behalf of the community until he repays the loan he borrowed during his tenure. He remains a stooge for Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi, who placed him in power in 2008, and together, they squandered community funds intended for the proposed Abiaziem Autonomous community in 2010.
Finally, we want to inform the public that Abiaziem is a community within the Awa autonomous community, led by Eze Ihezie Felix Onunuju, Ezeoha 1 of Awa Autonomous Community. At no point did Eze Ihezie Felix Onunuju interfere with the oil company's activities in Abiaziem. The oil company, Antan Producing Limited, has stated that they deal with Ezes and Autonomous communities, not Town Unions. Eze Ihezie Felix Onunuju has always supported Abiaziem's right to have separate discussions with the oil company if they are willing to engage with Town Unions.
The press conference also falsely claims that there is an oil deposit in Abiaziem. The company is merely conducting oil prospects, in and around Oguta LGA and nothing more.
We are confident that Mr Christian Igwe will not object if the oil company decides to engage with his community. He is a progressive individual who always wishes for the prosperity of Abiaziem.
At this juncture, we call on the Imo State government, led by Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimna (Onwa Oyoko), and the general public to disregard the malicious press conference conducted by Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi and Mr Chima Awah. Their statements are purely lies and misleading.
Mr Gabriel Irogbarachi and Mr Chima Awah are disgruntled elements and power-seekers. They are the ones causing trouble in Abiaziem community while pointing fingers at others.
Thank you for your attention.
