On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in the Papa boundary area of Iwo, Osun State, where an operative of the Osun State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, was killed during an ambush by suspected armed hoodlums. The deceased, identified as Lamidi Abiodun, was responding to a distress call from local farmers under attack when the security team was ambushed.
According to reports, the joint team of Amotekun operatives and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) was attacked by gunmen allegedly led by a notorious gang leader, Akeem Olofa. During the confrontation, Abiodun was fatally assaulted with a machete to the head after initial gunfire failed to penetrate his body.
In the aftermath, VGN member Nurudeen Alowonle was declared missing, and another operative, Alex Sola, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The incident has been reported to the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters, and Abiodun’s body has been deposited in a local mortuary.
The Amotekun Corps has expressed deep sorrow over the loss and is intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. Residents of Osun State are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
