At Tuesday’s plenary, the House advanced national priorities through critical debates, legislative action, and citizen-focused resolutions.
Debate opened on the Older Persons’ Rights Bill, which seeks to protect the dignity, welfare, and social inclusion of Nigeria’s ageing population. The push to boost local manufacturing also gained traction, as the House advocated the revival of local textile production and called for stricter regulation of fabric importation.
In commemoration of World Hypertension Day 2025, the House received the NCD Alliance at plenary. The delegation advocated for a dedicated budget line for non-communicable diseases to strengthen public health policy and nationwide awareness campaigns.
The N1.783 trillion FCT Appropriation Bill for 2025 was presented for second reading with sector-specific allocations, followed by the Speaker’s ruling affirming the legislature’s role in ensuring rigorous budgetary oversight. The Speaker also named new Deputy Committee Chairmen and reiterated the need for strengthened oversight and proactive committee engagement.
Additionally, the House responded to pressing emergencies and deliberated motions on regional development, agricultural reform, and public infrastructure. Public petitions were laid, reflecting the legislature’s ongoing commitment to citizen engagement, national development, and responsive governance for all Nigerians.
