In a significant development amid Rivers State's political turmoil, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his Abuja residence on Friday, April 18, 2025, seeking reconciliation. Accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba, Fubara reportedly prostrated before Wike, held his legs, and addressed him as "My Oga," demonstrating a profound gesture of respect and a plea for forgiveness.
This meeting followed a prior discussion between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London, addressing the escalating political crisis in Rivers State. The crisis had led President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly, and appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as sole administrator.
Sources indicate that Fubara remained at Wike's residence until the early hours of Saturday, April 19. While specific details of their conversation remain undisclosed, it is reported that Fubara was advised to return to Rivers State and engage with his supporters, particularly elders, to discuss the underlying issues of his conflict with Wike.
The rift between Fubara and Wike, his predecessor and political mentor, has caused a significant split within the Rivers State House of Assembly, dividing it into factions loyal to each leader. This division has further complicated governance in the state, prompting federal intervention.
As of now, official spokespersons from both camps have confirmed the meeting but have refrained from providing further details. The political landscape in Rivers State remains tense, with stakeholders closely monitoring the situation for any signs of resolution or further escalation.
