Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has addressed recent rumors regarding his health, specifically allegations of a collapse and subsequent overseas medical treatment. In a statement released on April 3, 2025, Wike dismissed these reports as unfounded and politically motivated, attributing them to individuals attempting to divert attention from more pressing issues.
Wike referred to a recent revelation by the former Head of Service of Rivers State, who alleged plans to bomb the Rivers State House of Assembly complex and attack national assets. He suggested that the circulation of false health rumors about him was a tactic to distract the public from these serious allegations. He stated, "To divert the attention of people from focusing on that, they had to bring up rumours that I had been flown overseas."
Addressing the rumors directly, Wike emphasized his ongoing public engagements as evidence of his health and commitment to his duties. He mentioned his attendance at the President’s Iftar during the latter's birthday and his leadership in the Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu as demonstrations of his active participation in governmental affairs. He remarked, "You see me every day. The day Mr. President broke Iftar during his birthday, I was there. The next day, I led Abuja residents to pay Sallah homage."
Furthermore, Wike expressed gratitude for public concern but cautioned against wishing ill health upon others, reinforcing that only God determines one's lifespan. He concluded, "I thank Nigerians for showing concern, but people should not wish their fellow human beings such a thing to happen."
