Concerned about the deplorable conditions of Akwakuma Roundabout/Egbeada/Orlu Old Road and Umuonyeali Timber Market Road/Ama Wire Orji Road, which has started affecting the popular Owerri/Orlu Road, and to ensure ease of transportation, the Imo State House Of Assembly has urged the State Government to commence their immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction.

This was the outcome of the House Plenary activity on Thursday, 17/04/2025.

Presenting the Motion, the Chief Sponsor and Member Representing Mbaitoli State Constituency, Hon Engr Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, explained the deplorable conditions of the two roads, which he said have affecting adjoining roads, including the Owerri/Orlu road. He further stated that the roads lacked proper drainage systems and has led to persistent flooding, which disrupts business activities whenever it rains.

According to the Mbaitoli lawmaker, "As the House Committee Chairman On Environment, I always move around with Members of my Committee to know the situation of things around Owerri Capital city, have observed the deplorable conditions of the Akwakuma Roundabout/Egbeada/Orlu Road and Umuonyeali Timber Market Road/Ama Wire Orji Road. There deplorable conditions are now affecting the well constructed Owerri/Orlu Road, widely seen as one of the best Infrastructural achievements of the Administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma and other adjoining roads".

"Again, the accumulation of flood water and sediments from these adjoining roads have blocked the "Collect Water Drainage" at Akwakuma Roundabout, thereby posing significant threat to the structural integrity and longevity of the newly constructed Owerri/Orlu Road".

While calling on his Honourable Colleagues to lend their voices in support of the Motion, Hon Ikpamezie stated that their immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction would prevent further degradation of the Owerri/Orlu Road, protect public infrastructure and ensure continued ease of transportation for the citizens.

They therefore called for the immediate reconstruction of the two roads, and introduction of Balloon Technology Initiative, as was done on MCC/Uratta Road.

Satisfied with contributions from Honourable Members, the Speaker, Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe, who presided, put it to vote and it was unanimously adopted. Thereafter, he Ruled as follows :
