A fire erupted early this morning at Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State, Nigeria, causing significant damage to sections of the market. The blaze began around 6:20 AM at a building on Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road, and rapidly spread to adjacent structures.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Firefighters from the Anambra State Fire Service responded promptly to the distress call and are currently working to contain the inferno. Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to manage the situation.

This incident follows a similar fire outbreak earlier this week at Iweka Road, close to Ochanja Market in Onitsha, where shops and goods worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the current fire and assessing the extent of the damage.
