The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) recently organized an intensive training session for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state, aimed at improving revenue assessment, collection, and management. The training also included revenue agents from local government areas, focusing on the sale and issuance of daily tickets, market tolls, and general revenue collection.
The initiative, designed to enhance the capacity of MDAs, introduced participants to a new Revenue Management System. This system is expected to streamline processes, reduce revenue leakages, and ensure transparency in revenue collection.
During the session, the Chairman of the IIRS, Mr. Justice R. Okoye, commended the trainees for their commitment to upskilling and adapting to the new system. He emphasized that the initiative, spearheaded by the Executive Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, is a strategic move to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). According to Mr. Okoye, the new system will provide greater visibility, ensure utmost transparency, and significantly improve revenue collection efficiency across Imo State.
This training marks a critical step in the state’s efforts to modernize its revenue management processes and achieve sustainable economic growth.
