In a significant move towards resolving a longstanding boundary dispute, the local government chairmen of Nwangele LGA and Isiala Mbano LGA, Hon. Chief Paul Duru and Hon. Chika Israel Okoroike, respectively, visited the contentious land area that has become a focal point of conflict between the communities of Amaigbo in Nwangele and Amauzari in Isiala Mbano. This visit comes in the wake of a series of troubling incidents over the past few weeks, which have included threats, harassment, and physical altercations among the residents of both communities. If left unchecked, this simmering dispute could escalate into wider conflicts, potentially causing severe damage to both property and community relations.

During the visit, both chairmen made separate yet harmonized calls for peace and coexistence. They emphasized the need for dialogue and understanding as foundational steps in healing the rift that has formed between the two communities. Both leaders assured the people that the state boundary committee will be engaged to assess the situation, determine the rightful boundaries, and identify the legitimate owners of the disputed lands. Their firm commitment to a peaceful resolution appears to inspire hope among the residents, who are eager for a conclusion to the conflict that has disrupted their lives.

Additionally, the chairmen took a firm stance on the need to cease all activities related to the disputed land until a resolution is reached. They issued a clear warning to the people of both Amaigbo and Amauzari, stating that any further claims, trespassing, or other actions on the land will invoke the full weight of the law. This decisive measure aims to curb any escalation of tensions and to promote a sense of order while the boundary issue is being resolved. The leaders stressed the importance of mutual respect and adherence to the law as vital components in navigating this dispute peacefully.

Both Hon. Duru and Hon. Okoroike conveyed their assurances that Governor Hope Uzodimma is a proponent of peace and stability and has no intention of letting the land dispute contribute to unnecessary tensions in the state. They reiterated that the state's administration is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to keeping the peace. With the governor’s backing and the local leaders' call for calm, there is a palpable sense of optimism that the path to resolution—though fraught with challenges—will lead to a harmonious coexistence between the communities of Amaigbo and Amauzari.
