The Special Adviser to the Governor on Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring, Chief Ezechukwu Obonna, along with representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), visited Government Secondary School Owerri as part of their ongoing drug abuse enlightenment campaign. This initiative aims to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and promote healthy lifestyles.¹

During the visit, Chief Obonna and the NDLEA representatives engaged with students, sharing information on the risks associated with drug abuse, such as physical and mental dependence, and the consequences of drug trafficking. They emphasized the importance of making informed choices and the need for students to prioritize their health, well-being, and education.

The campaign also highlighted the various ways to prevent drug abuse, including:

- *Parental Intervention*: Parents serving as role models and mentors, educating children about the dangers of drug abuse.

- *Public Enlightenment Campaigns*: Regular campaigns and seminars to educate the public about the risks of drug abuse.

- *Religious Intervention*: Religious bodies sensitizing their followers about the negative effects of drug abuse.

- *Media Campaigns*: The media promoting anti-drug abuse messages and programs.²

The visit to Government Secondary School Owerri is part of a larger initiative to educate students across Imo State about the dangers of drug abuse. By working together, the SA on Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring, the NDLEA, and other stakeholders aim to create a safer and healthier environment for young people in Imo State.
