*OMEOGO'S COMMITTEE ON INTER-GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS VISITS THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION (SGF) FOR OVERSIGHT FUNCTION*
The member representing the great people of Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. High Chief Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu (Omeogo, Ogbaturuenyi Na Orlu), who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Inter-Governmental Affairs of the 10th National Assembly and member of the 6th ECOWAS Parliament, on Friday, 26th July 2024 led members of the House Committee on Inter-Governmental Affairs to pay an oversight function visit to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
On arrival, the Committee which has Hon. High Chief Omeogo as the Chairman was warmly received by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, Dist Sen. George Akume and his topmost management team.
After the pleasantries and the National Anthem there was an elaborate introduction of the members of the committee and members of the management of the SGF office before starting off business of the day.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. High Chief Omeogo told their host that, his highly respected Committee came to meet, familiarize, talk, suggest and think out areas of difficulties and things that could possibly hinder the smooth running of your office, which we have in our purview as one of our primary oversights.
"We have come to feel your pulse, to know your challenges, to discuss and put heads together and know if there are areas where we could come in through our legislative functions to facilitate and assist in making the smooth running of your office easier and better, as our country now needs all hands to be on deck to uplift the standard of living of our citizens", said Omeogo.
Responding, the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), His Excellency, Dist Sen. George Akume expressed his happiness and gratitude to the August visitors and appreciated that they came now that we all need to work hand-in-hand with each other in all sincerity to achieve better results.
Sen. Akume listed some of the challenges of his office and government in general and said that, every well-meaning Nigerian should be more patriotic now than ever to enable the government to reposition the country for better results.
He commended the Inter-Governmental Affairs Committee for being proactive in coming to know their challenges and asked that the members through their legislations should assist in making laws and motions that would make it easier for the citizens to feel the efforts of the government so far as he assured that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing it's utmost in reshaping things and soon, citizens will start to feel the great impacts of all that the government has been doing.
Few members of the committee were given time to talk and suggest possible ways to have immediate impact of the achievements of the government on the citizens. They also advised that the gap between government and the citizens should be bridged through proper communication and publication of government plans and activities so as to reduce imaginations, speculations and agitations due to ignorance of government activities and plans.
The Committee thanked the SGF for his time and humility in responding to questions and promised to do their best in supporting his office and the government through better legislations.
Omeogo is doing well. He knows his oversight function and he is performing them. He knows the country needs all hands to be on deck and he is calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands to make our country a better place. The voice of Orlu, Orsu and Oru East is going places.
