Imo State has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fortifying the safety and security of its schools with the inauguration of the School Protection Squad (SPS).

Spearheaded by Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the SPS initiative marks a proactive stride towards fostering a secure learning environment for students, educators, and staff members throughout the state.

Comprising a dedicated force of over one hundred extensively trained personnel, the SPS is equipped with cutting-edge crime-fighting technologies, including patrol vehicles, motorcycles, bulletproof vests, smoke gunners, and state-of-the-art alarm systems.

This arsenal underscores the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to bolstering the Safer School Programme on a national scale.

The launch event, hosted at City Secondary School in Owerri, garnered significant attendance from key stakeholders, including the Executive Governor of Imo State, represented by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, Professor John Cliff Nwadike, and other education officials.

CP Danjuma emphasized the SPS's unwavering dedication and professionalism, urging community members to rally behind their efforts in safeguarding educational institutions.

Professor Nwadike lauded the initiative for its pivotal role in reinforcing school safety and commended CP Danjuma's proactive measures in combating crime. He advocated for the sustained deployment of SPS operatives, particularly in rural areas.

The launch received enthusiastic support from teachers and students, who pledged their collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure security within schools and their surrounding communities.

This collaborative endeavor epitomizes the concerted efforts of law enforcement and educational authorities to cultivate a conducive learning environment for every child across Imo State.
