The Nigerian Army has taken decisive action against two of its personnel implicated in the theft of electric cables at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.

Following an Orderly Room Trial, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani were found guilty of the offense and subsequently dismissed from the army.

In a statement released to the public, the Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline.

The investigation into the theft, conducted in collaboration with the refinery's management, revealed that the soldiers had abandoned their duty post and were in unauthorized possession of the materials.

The soldiers were charged with Failure to Perform Military Duties under section 57, sub-section (1), and Other Civil Offenses under section 114, sub-section (1) of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. They were given the opportunity to present their cases during the trial but were ultimately found guilty as per military laws.

In line with its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and criminality within its ranks, the Nigerian Army swiftly dismissed the soldiers from service with immediate effect. Furthermore, they have been handed over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.

The army's decisive action underscores its commitment to maintaining institutional integrity and reputation. It reassures the public of its dedication to upholding integrity, discipline, and accountability at all levels while continuing its duty to protect and serve the nation.

The Nigerian Army urges the public to continue supporting its efforts in safeguarding national security and promoting peace and stability across the nation.
