In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State swiftly appointed Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor following the impeachment of Comrade Philip Shaibu.

The decision, announced moments after the impeachment proceedings, signals a significant shift in the state's political landscape. Omobayo, a 38-year-old Engineer, is set to be inaugurated on Monday at the Edo State Government House in Benin City, pending screening by the House of Assembly. The impeachment of Shaibu came after the adoption of the report of a seven-man investigative panel tasked with probing allegations of misconduct against him.

Despite attempts by Shaibu and his counsel to delay proceedings, including objections citing legal matters in Abuja, the panel proceeded with its inquiry, ultimately leading to Shaibu's removal from office. The appointment of Omobayo as deputy governor marks a new chapter in Edo's political journey, with anticipation high for his swearing-in ceremony and the impact he will have on the state's governance.
