The recent disbursement of a ₦500,000 grant by Governor Hope Uzodinma to law students of Imo State University for their law school fees has stirred a debate among Imo indigenes.
The grant, hailed as a commendable move by beneficiaries and Imo residents nationwide, has prompted calls for inclusivity from graduates of other universities in Nigeria. Governor Uzodinma's decision to provide financial aid to Imo State University law graduates was met with appreciation, yet it has left graduates from other institutions feeling overlooked.
In a letter penned by Njoku Chinaemeze Emmanuel and Ikwuegbu Benedicta Ngozi, representing Imo indigenes at the Port Harcourt Law School Campus, the Governor was urged to extend the assistance to all Imo students, emphasizing his role as the father figure for all Imo citizens and students, regardless of their alma mater.
This plea reflects a growing sentiment among Imo natives for equitable support from their state government.
