In a tragic turn of events, a community in Kogi State, Agojeju-Odo, situated in the Omala Local Government Council, fell victim to a violent assault allegedly carried out by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia. According to reports obtained on Friday morning, the assailants launched a surprise attack, surrounding the community and unleashing gunfire indiscriminately, resulting in multiple fatalities and the destruction of homes.

Initial investigations suggest that a dispute between a local resident and a Fulani herder over damaged yam tubers may have triggered the violence. Despite prior warnings and heightened tensions in the area, the attack caught residents off guard, leaving 27 confirmed dead and several others injured. Local vigilantes have mobilized search efforts to locate missing individuals.

Authorities, including the newly appointed Local Government Council Caretaker Chairman, Mark Edibo, were aware of the escalating tensions but were unable to prevent the bloodshed. The Kogi State Police swiftly responded to the distress call, deploying a tactical squad comprised of Mobile Police, Soldiers, and Vigilante men to restore order and secure the area.

However, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed as authorities continue to assess the situation.
