Former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has reaffirmed his allegiance to the Abia Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amidst recent defections by some party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP).
The defections, which included prominent figures such as former Chief of Staff Anthony Agbazuere, former commissioner Eze Chikanmayo, and former House of Assembly member Jerry Uzosike, were reported by Gists9ja. Speaking at a caucus meeting held at the new PDP secretariat in Umuahia, Ikpeazu assured party members of his commitment to remaining in the PDP and working towards its rebuilding in the state.
He emphasized the importance of unity among party members and called for collective efforts to ensure the party's resurgence. Ikpeazu acknowledged the personal choices of those who chose to leave the party but urged loyalty, highlighting the party's past contributions to its members.
State PDP Chairman Asiforo Okere expressed gratitude to members who remained loyal to the party and announced measures taken by the National Working Committee to address internal challenges, including the extension of ward executives' tenures and the formation of reconciliation committees. Despite losing the governorship seat, Okere noted that the party still maintains a majority in the Abia State House of Assembly.
