The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken swift action following a fire outbreak at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) Terminal 1 in Lagos.
In response to the incident which occurred around 5:29 am on Thursday, all flight operations have been redirected to the D wing of the airport. The fire, believed to have originated from the E54 bridge, led to the evacuation of airport staff and passengers, causing tension within the vicinity.
FAAN, in collaboration with the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team, promptly contained the situation by 06:41 am, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause. Electrical engineers disconnected power from the affected E wing as a precautionary measure. Efforts are underway to ventilate the smoke-filled area, with updates expected to follow shortly.
