The Lagos State Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially confirmed the arrest of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, by sharing his mugshot. According to the anti-corruption agency, Bobrisky was detained in connection with allegations of Naira mutilation and is slated to face legal proceedings following the completion of the investigation.
The EFCC revealed that the 31-year-old social media influencer was summoned for questioning after a video surfaced showing him spraying and displaying bundles of fresh Naira notes at the premiere of a movie titled "Ajakaju." The movie was produced by Eniola Ajao, a renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker, at Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, on March 24, 2024.
In an official statement released by the commission, it stated:
"Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation of Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, for allegedly spraying Naira notes.
The EFCC had invited the 31-year-old following a video report of spraying and flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie, Ajakaju, produced by Eniola Ajao, a Nollywood actress and producer, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.
Investigation also revealed that he had also committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times.
Following the invitation by the Commission, he arrived at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC in the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024 for interrogation and volunteered his statements.
He will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation."
The EFCC's disclosure indicates that Bobrisky is accused of engaging in similar activities at various event venues and parties on separate occasions. Bobrisky cooperated with EFCC officials during interrogation, providing voluntary statements. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, he is expected to face legal prosecution.
