Ihiala/Orlu Road’s Dilapidated Condition Sparks Urgent Call for Rehabilitation by Imo State Assembly"

The dilapidated state of the Ihiala/Orlu Road, traversing three local governments in Imo State, has once again come under scrutiny as the Imo State House of Assembly rallies behind Chief Canice More Nwachukwu, representing Orlu, Orsu, and Oru East Federal Constituency, in his impassioned plea for immediate rehabilitation. Nwachukwu, affectionately known as Omeogo, had previously tabled a motion weeks ago, highlighting the urgent need for intervention on the deteriorating road network.

Speaking during the assembly session, Nwachukwu underscored the critical role the road plays in facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce from rural areas to urban centers. Recognizing its significance in sustaining local economies and fostering regional development, Nwachukwu's motion garnered widespread support from his fellow lawmakers.

In response to the mounting concerns, the Imo State House of Assembly unanimously passed a resolution during its recent plenary session, calling upon Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Works to initiate immediate palliative measures for the Orlu to Ihiala road, particularly through the Orsu local government area. This resolution underscores the gravity of the situation and the imperative for swift action to alleviate the plight of commuters and residents grappling with the road's deplorable conditions.

The urgency of this call to action stems from the motion put forth by Hon. Uche Francis Agabiga, who emphasized that the Ihiala/Orlu Road, stretching across Orlu, Orsu, and Ihiala local government areas, serves as a vital artery connecting communities and facilitating economic activities. Despite previous appeals to federal agencies such as the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to address the road's state, substantive rehabilitation efforts have yet to materialize, leaving commuters stranded and communities isolated.

Of particular concern is the dire condition of the Ihioma/Ebenator/Awo-Idemili axis of the road, which has deteriorated to the point of being impassable, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents and businesses in the region. The persistent neglect of this crucial infrastructure underscores the urgent need for coordinated action at both the state and federal levels to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Ihiala/Orlu Road and ensure the seamless movement of goods and people across the affected localities.

As stakeholders await decisive action from the state government and relevant authorities, the plight of those traversing the beleaguered road serves as a poignant reminder of the pressing need to address infrastructure deficits and prioritize the welfare of citizens across Imo State.
