What Peter Obi Did To Me During My Mother’s Burial – Actor Kanayo
Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has lauded the considerate actions of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during a challenging time in 2011.
Speaking in an interview with Afia TV, Kanayo revealed that after the burial of his mother in 2011, Obi, who was then the Governor of Anambra State, reached out to express his condolences.
Obi not only called the grieving actor but also sent a heartfelt gesture in the form of 250,000 Naira, the equivalent of the price of a cow in 2011, for the burial expenses.
Kanayo, known for his roles in the Nigerian film industry, acknowledged that some might have expected a larger sum from a political figure of Obi’s stature.
However, Kanayo emphasized that the significance lay in the fact that Obi took the time to personally contact him amidst his busy schedule, demonstrating genuine empathy.
The actor emphasized the value of such gestures, highlighting that true friends are those who make time to return calls during challenging moments.
“In 2011, I was to bury my mum, and I had many senators, friends, and I wrote to all of them. Two weeks after the funeral, Peter Obi called me at 1 am in his little voice, expressing his regrets and explaining that he would have come if he had seen the letter,” Kanayo recounted.
He appreciated Obi’s sincerity and noted that the amount sent, though the price of a cow, was secondary to the heartfelt connection made during a difficult period.
