"Parallel Paths: Goodluck Jonathan and Lucky Aiyedatiwa's Political Journeys Echo Similar Fortunes"

By Osondu Ahirika

Their names are synonymous. One is called GOODLUCK and the other LUCKY.

Both started off as Deputy Governors.

Goodluck Jonathan was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa under Dipreye Alamieyesigha

and Lucky Aiyedatiwa was Deputy Governor of Ondo State under Rotimi Akeredolu.

On December 9, 2005, Goodluck Jonathan succeeded to the governorship after Governor Alamieyesigha was impeached for corruption. December has also smiled on Lucky Aiyedatiwa.  Today, December 27, 2023, he was sworn in as Governor of Ondo State following the demise of Akeredolu.

Jonathan's famous luck was the play out again as he was handpicked to become Vice Presidential running mate to Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua in 2007.

Soon, the man became terminally ill. There was politics surrounding his lack of transmission of power to his vice following his protracted illness and absence from the country and public functions.

Jonathan was patient and weathered the storm till he was named Acting President of Nigeria on 9 February 2010, following a controversial Doctrine of Necessity from the Senate of Nigeria due to President Yar'Adua's trip to Saudi Arabia in November 2009 for medical treatment.

On May 5, 2009, President Yar'Adua succumbed to the cold hands of death and Goodluck Jonathan was sworn inad substantive President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The circumstances that led to the emergence of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the Governor of Ondo State share similar patterns with the Presidential upswing of Goodluck Jonathan.

The battle with the kitchen cabinet and the Legislature before necessity exacted it's toll.

Is there something about that name LUCKY, for history is repeating itself in a subtle manner?

Will people become wary of picking those bearing that name as running mate?

Is this about being unnecessarily suspicious or superstitious?

What's your viewpoint on this ?
