ONDO GOV AKEREDOLU IS DEAD
In a somber turn of events, the distinguished Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away at the age of 67. Reports indicate that Governor Akeredolu breathed his last in Lagos on Wednesday, marking the end of a chapter in the political landscape of Ondo State.
Governor Akeredolu had been undergoing medical treatment, managed by State House doctors, up until his demise. Unfortunately, the severity of his condition prevented him from seeking medical assistance abroad, compelling him to rely on local medical resources.
A reliable source shared with Vanguard, "Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos." The urgency of the situation became apparent when efforts were made to procure dialysis machines for his undisclosed location in Lagos just last week.
This unfortunate event follows Governor Akeredolu's return to Nigeria in September after a prolonged three-month medical leave in Germany. Subsequently, he faced health challenges, prompting another medical leave, during which President Bola Tinubu directed him to temporarily hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has been fulfilling the responsibilities of the acting governor during this challenging period. Notably, Governor Akeredolu's attempt to govern from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after his return in September, sparked public outrage due to concerns about his health and the effective administration of the state.
As the people of Ondo State come to terms with the loss of their leader, tributes pour in for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, whose contributions to the state will be remembered as part of his lasting legacy.
