"APC Ebonyi State Announces Zoning Decision for Senate Seat, Excludes Austin Umahi"
In a recent development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has made a significant decision regarding the upcoming elections for the Senate seat representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District. The younger brother of the former governor, Austin Umahi, has been sidelined from contesting for this position.
The announcement came through a statement signed by Ebonyi APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, and other State Working Committee (SWC) members. According to the statement, the party has decided to zone the Senatorial district ticket to Onicha Local Government Area, emphasizing the commitment to fairness and equality in the distribution of political positions within the district.
The party's rationale behind this decision is rooted in the notion of preventing a concentration of political influence in one locality. The statement argues that Ohaozara LGA, the Umahi brothers' hometown, already holds significant political positions, including a Ministerial seat, an INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, and a Senior Special Assistant to the President.
The statement further explains, "Nature abhors a vacuum, hence the need to fill the vacant position of the district." It highlights the equitable distribution of political roles in other LGAs within the district, such as Afikpo North, Edda, and Ivo.
Governor Francis Nwifuru, identified as the APC Leader in Ebonyi, is commended for his leadership that embodies equity and justice. The party underscores the need to emulate such values, citing examples where other LGAs have produced key political figures, and in the spirit of equity and justice, the vacant Senate seat should be zoned to Onicha LGA, which currently lacks representation in comparable positions.
This decision reflects the party's commitment to a balanced distribution of political opportunities and sets the stage for an interesting political landscape in the upcoming elections.
